Makena House is a nomadic private membership club bringing together creatives from Africa and the diaspora

We exist to provide space to gather and appreciate the richness of culture, art, and community in each city we host in. Brought to you by the founders of The Folklore and Tastemakers Africa, the house and the global membership is curated with the intention of true diasporic connectivity, a space for imagination, and a dynamic and generative experience all shared with an increible vibe.

 

Makena House

Cape Town 2025

December 26–December 30, 2025

Makena House is debuting in Cape Town, South Africa this December with a five-day pop-up experience. Members from around the world will be hand-selected to join an intimate community of people making their mark in fashion, beauty, music, art, marketing, film, and entrepreneurship.

Members have access to a private club house nestled between the city’s beautiful mountains and cityscape in the central district of Cape Town City Centre. A luxury travel concierge will be available to help with travel recommendations, booking reservations, and offering discounts for local restaurants, shops, events, and experiences. 

Member Experiences

  • A music rehearsal room with a drum set, two electronic keyboards, multiple microphone stands, a small stool, and some potted plants, with beige walls and rugs on the light wood floor.

    Music Performances

    Live sets and jam sessions from emerging and established artists across Africa and the diaspora.

    Poolside sessions and sunset parties with live DJs spinning Amapiano, Afro-house, hip-hop, and R&B.

    Chef Hosted Dining

    Curated dining experiences led by celebrated chefs showcasing regional flavors and stories.

The clubhouse

The Makena House clubhouse features a pool, indoor and outdoor dining spaces, floor-to-ceiling windows, and walls adorned with art from the African diaspora. Multiple events will be held throughout the day at the clubhouse. Each day centers on a different theme — from South African culture and contemporary art to music, cinema, and fashion — offering experiences that blend creativity and the festive energy of Africa in December.

Open from from 12pm to 12am, the clubhouse will serve lunch and dinner daily and have a rotating selection of guest DJs playing tunes. Whether looking for a place to relax by the pool and eat during the day, or drink and party in the evening, the house will serve as a communal space for the world’s brightest creative talent to laugh, connect, and experience the authentic drinks, foods, and sounds of South Africa.
